Project Overview
For our sustainable building project, we will be designing a sustainable tree house. Our tree house will function primarily as an Airbnb, while containing all the proper components of a residential building and following the net-zero energy requirements. This project was inspired by Tree house Masters, the hit Animal Planet TV show, where Pete Nelson, the host of the show, and his team of architects and engineers build fantasy tree houses.

Project Description
Our sustainable tree house, like a residential building, will operate year-round as a fully functional home. It will, for this reason, follow the net-zero guidelines in terms of its energy consumption and air exchange. The goals we have for the project were formed on the basis of the location, size, and functionality of the tree house, and the methods we plan to use must follow the Passivhaus standards. While the specific design plan remains in the working, we know that our primary technical challenge for the design emerges from the fact that this building is located within the trees. However, we are excited to tackle this type of challenge. The tree house will ideally be located in a secluded forest setting, and we decided that the Poconos would be the perfect location to achieve this particular goal. Regarding this setting, the building will be both well-suited for a vacation spot and also situated within short distance of a running body of water, which we hope to use to our advantage in terms of energy generation. Solar energy will also provide an alternate source of energy, and we will be analyzing the various positions of solar panels to find the best way to provide a sufficient load. As of now, our focus is directed towards the architectural design and envelope of the building itself. As we progress further in the project, a more detailed plan of the electricity and water flow within the house will be outlined, with appropriate consideration of how the best air quality will be maintained.
